THE PAULINE ANNALS OF A PONTIFICAL ACADEMY Presented at the Pantheon, the place from which the institute takes its name
The Pontificia Insigne Accademia di Belle Arti e Lettere dei Virtuosi al Pantheon, which produces a prestigious publication bringing together the work of architects, painters, sculptors, poets, writers, musicians and film directors, all appointed by the Holy Father, has dedicated its annals to the Pauline year. The presentation of the annals took place on Friday May 22nd during a ceremony in the Pantheon basilica presided over by the Archpriest of the Papal Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls, Cardinal Andrea di Montezemolo, the promoter of the celebrations marking the bi-millennium of the birth of the Apostle of the Gentiles. His presentation, which was focused in particular on the activities undertaken in the three years from 2006 to 2008 ‘in the light of the Pauline year’, marks one of the most significant contributions to the volume. The publication also brings together presentations by other illustrious figures such as Cardinal Paul Poupard, president emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Culture, Archbishop Gianfranco Ravasi, the current president, Benedictine Abbot Edmund Power of the Abbey of St Paul Outside the Walls, theologian and Archbishop Bruno Forte, writer Carlo Sgorlon and sculptor Guido Veroi, whose panels from the Pauline door are featured on the cover. The current president of this Pontifical Academy, which was recognised by Pope Paul III in 1542, is art historian Professor Vitaliano Tiberia. |
